my dog is suffering from hip dissplacia. all drugs my vet gives my dog seem to make her vomit or the trots.she is in pain but copes so much better without the presscribed drugs . can anyone addvise me on a better non steroid anti inflammatory pain killer that will not make so ill .i know she is in pain can anyone give me some guidance please so far she has had previco and rimadyl both make her very ill.
Firstly please ensure that all medications aree given as prescribed and are fed with or after food. If you are unable to use these medications ask about using synoquin which is a glucosamine hydrochloride and chondroitin supplement. It has achieved great results in studies and has found to be as effective in most circumstances as rimadyl. Glucosamine combines is converted to chondroitin in the body, the condroitin encourages growth of cartilage and protects the joints from further damage. If your pooch is insured ask about surgical options as long term Nsaid’s are not ideal for any pet.
Avoid using human glucosamine supplements as they use glucosamine suphate which means they have higher salt levels which are not ideal especially with older pets.

Go to the RSPCA website they might be able to help you out. I hope your dog gets better soon

I would have a word wih your vet and tell him/her the problems your dog is having on the prescribed painkillers. Maybe they can provide an alternative.

Nupro supplement with glucosamine complex helped my dog a lot! Add buffered vitamin c to the list. Then learn how to do massage and accupressure. Also, try to find a vet that does accupuncture… it made a huge difference in the life of my pup who also had severe dysplasia. I lost her this year at 11 to complications due to this disease.
